The Middle East Association with the support of the City of London Corporation will be staging the third annual City and Gulf Co-operation Council Countries (GCC) Conference at the Merchant Taylors’ Hall in London on 19 June 2008.

The Conference follows the highly successful June 2007 event which brought together over 200 financial sector representatives from the Gulf and their City of London counterparts.

The Lord Mayor of the City of London, Alderman David Lewis, has kindly agreed to give the Opening Address at the Conference. Keynote speakers will examine latest trends in GCC markets. Interactive panel sessions will then debate:

  • Regulation & Risk Based Supervision: lessons from the global credit crunch;
  • Building strong foundations for GCC growth: the financing & skills challenge;
  • Global impact of Islamic Finance & Insurance: London & GCC synergies;
  • GCC Investment Flows to Third Markets and role of Sovereign Wealth Funds.

Our lead sponsors this year include the Bahrain Economic Development Board, Qatar Financial Centre Authority and Emirates National Bank of Dubai. Senior representatives are being invited from all Gulf financial centres including Abu Dhabi, Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. The full programme will be announced shortly. Invited speakers include:

  • Ms Kitty Ussher MP, UK Minister & Economic Secretary to HM Treasury;
  • Stuart Pearce, CEO, Qatar Financial Centre Authority
  • Robert Ainey, Chief Executive, Bankers Society of Bahrain
  • Sir David Walker, Senior Adviser, Morgan Stanley
  • Baroness Symons of Vernham Dean, Vice President of the Middle East Association & Special Representative on Saudi Arabia to the Prime Minister;
  • Michael Ainley, Head of International Firms Department, UK Financial Services Authority.

The Conference will bring together the dynamism of the Gulf with the maturity of the City of London. It will be an excellent and high-level networking opportunity and early registration
is advised.
